Swiss against France in Stuttgart- June 13, 2006
We arrived on the 12th of June 2006 from the Philippines to pay for our last respect to Mama Conching who was burried on the 3rd of June 2006. The following day, me & E-em went to Stuttgart for the Swiss first 2006 World Cup match against France. It was an exciting match but ended in a 0-0 draw.
Swiss against Togo in Dortmund - June 19, 2006
This time I went to Dortnumd with Eding for the Swiss match against Togo. The Dortmund Soccer Stadium was extra ordinary amazing. It was a wild evening with over 50,000 fans from Switzerland. The Swiss team beat Togo 2 to 0. We then took a night train back to Schaffhausen.
Swiss against Korea in Hannover - June 23, 2006
This was a critical match for the Swiss. Loosing the match against Korea would have meant an end to the Swiss World Cup adventure. I went to Hannover with a close family friend. His name is Thomas Portmann and married to a Filipina from Ormoc. More than 80% of the spectators were Swiss and went wild when the Swiss team won 2 to 0 against Korea.
Swiss against Ukraine in Cologne - June 26, 2006
The match against Ukraine was rated an easy one. Being the winner in the qualification group, which France the World Cup finalist only placing second, the Swiss had a bad day and lost the game in penalty shootout. Had we won, we would have played against Italy in the quarter finals. And the Swiss always play extremely well against Italy. Our preparation match against Italy just a few days before the start of the world cup ended in a draw. We would have been the world cup winner instead of the Italian team. The lost to Ukraine was painful but exiting the tournament among the last 16 teams was already a great achievement. Just after the world cup, FIFA ranked the Swiss team 13th in the world rankings. HOPP SCHWIIZ!!!
